Dahee Kim (Seoul, South Korea. 1988) Dahee is a transnational adoptee who grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis in a white family and community. Filmmaking has been her gateway into exploring the nuances of her experience as a transracial, transnational adoptee. Her first film, Big Happiness, looks at colorblindness in the transracial family system. It premiered at the Austin Film Festival. 


Dahee works as a sound editor and has recently worked on Cynthia Kao’s documentary Carefully Taught, which premiered at Bentonville Film Festival; and Elizabeth Lo’s upcoming documentary Mistress Dispeller. Dahee worked as a Program Director, programmer and community outreach manager at the Duluth Superior Film Festival and North x North International Film Festival. She managed outreach and communication with filmmakers as well as local community partners. Prior to working in film she spent the first five years of her career working in digital marketing. 


Her work has screened at Punto de Vista, Atlanta Film Festival, the Minneapolis St Paul International Film Festival and more. She was awarded the 2021 Alison Doener Fund for Women Pioneers in Filmmaking and the Allan Sekula Social Documentary Fund in 2022. She is currently in the research and development stage of a feature hybrid film. Professionally Dahee works in production and post-production sound. She graduated with an MFA film/video from the California Institute of the Arts in 2023.
